 2004 La Dame de Montrose, St-Estèphe
A very deep, intense appearance in the glass. The aromas here are lifted,
scented with black-cherry characters, some subtle toasted oak and savoury notes
too. The palate possesses a fine, deep fruit, uncommon in many a ‘second wine’.
Wonderful intensity is apparent: taut and structural this could compare
favourably with the wine of many a cru classé property. The fruit is intense,
vibrant and dark with a smoky quality. Very fine silky tannins are perceptible
but by no means obtrusive due to the expansive nature of the fruit.
Drink 2011 - 2019
2005 Puligny-Montrachet, Louis Carillon
Jacques (Carillon) used 15% new oak for his 'village' Puligny, a cuvée that is
produced from vines with an average age of 35 years. This has an attractive,
citrussy nose with a scent of grapefruit to the fore. The palate is ripe and
round with subtle flavours of exotic fruits and a creamy note. Pure and
harmonious.
